Advantages Of Fixed Dental Bridges

Posted on

If you have lost a large number of teeth, you may be considering several different tooth replacement devices, such as fixed bridges or dentures. Here are a few benefits of a fixed bridge.

No Movement

With a fixed bridge, the appliance is secured in your mouth. A conventional dentures relies on the suction of your mouth to remain in place.

A dental bridge is made from false teeth that are secured to base. The false teeth are usually bordered by dental crowns. To fix the bridge into position, the dental crowns are bonded or connected to natural teeth or dental implants. This attachment holds the bridge in place. As a result, you can chew or speak without having the bridge move about.

Not Removable

A fixed dental bridge is bonded into position, so it cannot be removed by the dental patient. Thus, you don't have to worry about removing the appliance to clean it. Instead, the bridge can be brushed as you clean your other teeth.

The porcelain teeth of the bridge can't decay, but they can harbor oral bacteria. Brushing removes plaque and bacteria from the appliance as it does for your natural teeth. To ensure that plaque does not get trapped between the gums and the false teeth of the bridge, your dentist may ask you to use special small brushes that are designed to reach into the small space and clear away plaque and other debris.

With a denture, the appliance may need to be removed for cleaning, and if a denture is left out of liquid for too long, the resin components of the appliance could dry out or warp.

Natural Appearance

Porcelain fixed bridges have a natural appearance. It rests against the gum line, so it is difficult to discern a fixed bridge from natural teeth. In addition, the false teeth of the bridge are usually made of porcelain, which has the appearance of natural tooth enamel.

A bridge is created from a mold of your mouth, so it should fit seamlessly and comfortably in your mouth the oral cavity. In addition, since the color of the porcelain teeth can be matched to that of your remaining natural teeth, a dental bridge usually looks quite natural.

Durable

Porcelain fixed dental bridges are quite durable. The hardness of the porcelain enables you to enjoy a wide variety of foods, regardless of their texture, without fearing that your bridge will be damaged.
