Four Ways To Enhance The Look Of Your Smile

Posted on

A beautiful and bright smile doesn't just look great in selfies, it also sends a message to others that you are professional, healthy and care about putting your best foot forward. If you have a smile that you're not pleased with, don't fret. Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can easily transform the look of your smile.

Laser Whitening

Whitening toothpaste and mouthwashes are great, but they aren't as effective as a professional laser whitening treatment. This in-office treatment can lighten your teeth up to 10 shades and last up to two years with a good, at-home oral hygiene regimen. Unless you have sensitive teeth, gum disease, enamel concerns or have dental restorations, you can have this cosmetic treatment method performed safely.

Lipstick

If you wear lipstick, choose shades that create a contrast between your teeth and your lips. Nude shades and lighter colors are nice, but if your teeth have some staining, the color of your teeth can quickly blend in with your lipstick color and make your smile appear darker than it actually is. Deeper, richer colors like plum and fire engine red create a strong contrast and can make your teeth look brighter. If you're in between whitening treatments, this is a great trick.

Tooth Recontouring

Many people have canine or vampire-like teeth near the front of their mouth. Medically, there is absolutely no concern for these teeth. However, for some people, cosmetically, they raise a concern. Eliminating this problem is as simple as tooth recontouring. Tooth recontouring is a cosmetic procedure that alters the surface appearance, length or shape of a tooth using something similar to a sanding-method. To prevent enamel damage and ensure your desired shape, this treatment is typically completed over a number of sessions; however, it is pain free.

Electric Toothbrush

Staining of the teeth is caused for a number of different reasons; however, one common reason is poor cleaning. Even with regular brushing, if you aren't thoroughly removing bacteria and plaque from your teeth, you are at risk for staining. Consider investing in an electric toothbrush to boost your brushing efforts. With proper use, an electric toothbrush can be more effective at cleaning your teeth than a manual option.

If you want to improve your smile, your dental provider should be your primary source of information. Your provider can examine your teeth and help you discover which methods will work best for your oral health needs and desired outcome.
